Gulf Place is the corner of Santa Rosa Beach where 30A meets 393, built around the amphitheatre lawn and the shops and restaurants that ring it, with townhomes, flats and small condo buildings behind. It is one of the few places on this road where you can walk to dinner, which is precisely why groups here often decide not to. Walking to a restaurant is easy for two people and a logistics problem for fourteen, and the tables around the lawn are not built for a party that size on a summer evening. The properties themselves are well suited to cooking outdoors: most townhomes have a terrace or a courtyard, several have a shared pool deck, and Ed Walline beach access is directly across the road, so the day ends where the group already is.

Where we set up in Gulf Place

We need about 6 ft x 4 ft of level ground with open sky above it and 3 feet of clear standing room on the chef's side. At Gulf Place that is usually a townhome terrace, a courtyard, or a reserved section of the shared pool deck. A shared deck is the one to check early, because using it for a private dinner is a question for the association rather than for us, and it is far easier answered two weeks out. Covered terraces are common here and a solid roof over the grill rules the spot out, so if the obvious space is roofed we will use the parking pad instead. Heat mats go down on wood decking as standard.

Getting to you

Gulf Place sits directly on 30A at the 393 junction, which makes it one of the simplest addresses to reach on this road, though the junction itself slows down badly on a summer afternoon. The chef aims to be on site about 45 minutes before your seating and plans around that rather than asking you to. Parking is the one thing worth arranging: hold a space near your unit rather than leaving the equipment cart to find one around the lawn. Gulf Place is on 30A, so there is no travel fee at all.

Bachelorette groups and birthdays make up most of what this corner takes, and the reason is the same in both cases. A group that has rented a townhome here is within walking distance of a dozen places to eat and still cannot get all of itself around one table at the hour it wants. Cooking at the property removes the entire problem: no reservation, no split tables, no walking back in the dark, and the dinner becomes the evening rather than an interruption to it. The rate is the same here as everywhere on 30A: $60 per adult on the 2-protein plate, $30 per child aged 5 to 12, a $500 party minimum on the food total, and no travel fee.
