Camp Creek is the pocket between WaterSound and Inlet Beach, built around the golf club and the lake that gives it its name. It is quieter than the towns on the beach side of 30A and the properties are larger: golf-course homes with terraces, lake-side houses with deep lots, and club properties with more outdoor room than most groups know what to do with. For a dinner cooked outdoors that is close to ideal. The constraint on 30A is almost never the food and almost always the space, and this is one of the few corners of Walton County where space is not in short supply. It is also a short drive to Alys Beach and Rosemary Beach, so groups here are usually people who wanted the address without the crowd, and who plan their evenings at the house rather than out.

We need about 6 ft x 4 ft of level ground with genuinely open sky above it and 3 feet of clear standing room on the chef's side. Camp Creek properties usually offer several options: a rear terrace, a driveway apron, or a pool surround, and it is worth picking one before the day rather than at six o'clock. The things that rule a spot out here are the same as anywhere on this coast. A pergola with a solid or canvas top, a deep balcony overhang, and a screened enclosure all count as a roof, and we do not cook under any of them. Heat mats go down on any wood or composite decking as standard.

Camp Creek is reached from 30A or from Highway 98 by way of the club roads, and some of the properties sit inside a gate. If yours does, send the gate code or the guest arrangement with your booking confirmation, because a gate nobody warned us about is the single most common cause of a late start anywhere on this coast. The chef aims to be on site about 45 minutes before your seating. Camp Creek is inside the area we cover with no travel fee, so nothing is added for the drive here.

The first is a birthday at a house rented for the occasion, where the group is large enough that a restaurant means one long table booked months ahead and everyone shouting across it.
